Maple and Terry Halls are two mixed-use residence halls with linked amenities and public plazas.

The new buildings incorporate 1,100 student rooms, academic classrooms, and University of Washington Housing and Food Services offices. The design integrates students learning and living needs.

Diverse settings help students learn to live healthfully, explore new activities and connect socially during their freshman year. Additionally, shared amenities include a group kitchen, a game center, an art studio, public plazas, and a roof terrace that support the University’s mission.

The design also provides residents equal access to daylight during the rainy Pacific Northwest school years through various window sizes on all facades.

The new residence halls are located near a new light rail station. In addition, Terry and Maple halls feature new bike paths, pedestrian connections, and public plazas, increasing connectivity to the city and campus and embracing an urban, walkable setting.

The two halls reflect the preference of today’s students for living in vibrant urban villages. The facilities also demonstrate the potential for campus-edge development to help universities accommodate growth and expand connectivity with city neighborhoods.
