Last week, we toured the Multicultural Child & Family Hope Center in Tacoma. The Center offers various programs, including educational services, transitional housing, mental health and recovery support, foster care, childcare, family visitation services, rental assistance, youth mentoring and empowerment, parent education classes and training, and more.

The Center strives to build positive relationships to empower and uplift children and youth in the community. Our favorite part of the tour was seeing how students started their day with an energetic music warm-up filled with encouraging words.

The Center has been growing over the years. And now their space can’t fulfill their demand, resulting in a long wait list for their programs. Through State funds, local foundations, grants, and individual donors, Multicultural has been working to raise $17 million to build the new Cora Whitley Family Center. The new facility will provide enough space to increase childcare capacity by 70%. There’ll be 38 programs available to serve over 6,000 communities of color in Pierce County. Through its family support programs, the Center contributes to reducing the number of children in foster care and racial bias in the CPS system.

Visit their website to learn more about the inspiring work they’re doing.
